"Layton's Mystery Journey" Makes Its 3DS Debut in the West This Fall

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Just a couple days ago we posted about Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire's Conspiracy, which is coming to 3DS and smartphones this year. We mentioned that Japan gets the 3DS version first on July 20, which is also when the game launches worldwide on smartphones, and now we have a better idea of when to expect it on 3DS in the west.

The official English website echoes the July 20 global release date for the iOS and Android versions, adding an "early Autumn 2017" window for 3DS. You can also see some of the official English character names on the site, which describes the game like so:

The Layton Series games are comical, puzzle-laden adventure stories. Previous titles have focused on solving one large puzzle. In this new title, however, the aim is to solve many smaller mysteries woven into an intriguing overall plot. Gameplay focuses on interactions with a cast of witty characters, all taking part in a story full of dramatic developments and amusing incidents.

"March Comes in Like A Lion" Manga Author Posts Parody Art Inspired by "Harry Potter"

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

After finding similarities between her shogi-themed manga Sangatsu no Lion/March Comes in like a Lion and British author J. K. Rowling's internationally popular children fantasy novel series Harry Potter, Chika Umino posted a parody art featuring her manga characters inspired by the poster of the first live-action film Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone on her official Twitter account.

"'March Comes in like a Lion' tells a story about a boy without a single relative who uses his only ability (talent in shogi) to encounter various people, help each other, and find his place and happiness in life step by step. If such comparison is possible, it reminds me of Harry Po... Oh? Who is knocking on the door at this time of day... (· ω ·)?"

Happy Fifth Anniversary To Type-Moon's "Mahou Tsukai no Yoru"

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com
Alainmendez

5 years and still no translation. MRGRGR!

First, there was Kara no Kyoukai -the Garden of sinners-,  released as a novel in 1998, made into an anime starting in 2007. Then there was visual novel Tsukihime in 2000, which is due to get a remake one of these years.  In 2004, there was Fate/, which you might have heard of. Then in 2012, there was Type-Moon's Mahoutsukai no Yoru (A Magician's Night), a visual novel written by co-founder Kinoko Nasu, featuring art by Hirokazu Koyama and music by Fukasawa Hideyuki.

Koyama celebrated today's 5th anniversary with some tribute art featuring newbie mage Aoko Aozaki, here a high school student in the 90s, later (in her timeline, previously in ours) in Tsukihime and Melty Blood.

The backstory on its development is

The original Mahou Tsukai no Yoru, written in 1996, was the novel that first established the currently known Nasuverse. Nasu and his colleagues thought at that point that he wouldn't be able to write anything better than it for the next ten years. In high school, he was inspired by the first episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion and he thought of writing a novel. Nasu wrote roughly 400 pages and he tried to enter it into several writing competitions in 1996 but it was unsuccessful, and the work was merely passed around by his friends. Nasu tried to send the novel to the Fujimi Shobo publisher but he found it difficult to keep it under 350 pages and left the novel unreleased. In the end, he only printed less than 5 copies of the original draft. Some of the characters from the original story were drawn by Takashi Takeuchi for his old personal website.

After forming TYPE-MOON with Takeuchi and with the successes of his later visual novel works Tsukihime and Fate/stay night, Takeuchi suggested remaking Mahou Tsukai no Yoru so it could be released before their next planned project Girls' Work. TYPE-MOON announced that it was working on the story as its latest visual novel project, with further details of the project to be published in Type-Moon Ace. Unlike TYPE-MOON's previous games, Mahou Tsukai no Yoru is not an adult game.

Takashi Takeuchi illustrated Aoko, Touko and Alice in the Character Material, though Hirokazu Koyama would be the lead artist in the final product.

It was publicly announced in April 2008 and the game was set to be released sometime in 2009, but after several delays, the game received a September 2010 release date. In September, however, TYPE-MOON announced that the release date has been pushed back to winter 2011, and later to sometime in 2011. A free game demo was made available on December 15, 2011.

It was released officially on April 12, 2012.

In order to promote the upcoming 21st Detective Conan feature film Karakurenai no Love Letter/Crimson Love Letter, Gosho Aoyama and Yuki Suetsugu, the authors of the Meitantei Conan/Detective Conan and Chihayafuru manga series, collaborated to draw an illustration featuring the characters from both series.

Both manga have been serialized in different publishers' magazines, Conan has been in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday while Chihayafuru has been in Kodansha's BE LOVE. Yoshiyuki Tomino Teases New "Gundam Reconguista in G" Project

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com
Alainmendez

That is ... surprising.

Hold onto your hats, Gundam fans, because director / Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino has hinted that a new project involving Gundam Reconguista in G (aka G-Reco) is currently in development.

The announcement was made by Tomino at a screening / talk event at the Romics anime / manga / comic book convention which was held from April 06 - 09, 2017, in Rome, Italy. Tomino was present as the guest of honor for the convention, where he received the Romics d'Oro award.

Gundam Reconguista in G is a 2014 - 2015 TV anime directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino and featuring animation by Sunrise. The 26 episode series is released on Bluray in North America by Sunrise, Inc., who describe the story of G-Reco as follows:

"The new era begins!

The turbulent era known as the Universal Century has ended. Now, mankind looks towards prosperity and peace in the new era known as the Regild Century (R.C.). One of the most important resources in this era is the Capital Tower - a space elevator which towers over the land connecting Earth to space. Its purpose, to transport the Photon Batteries the Earth relies on for power. It is worshiped as a holy place.

Tasked with protecting the tower, one day on a practice mission, young Capital Guard cadet, Bellri Zenam is attacked by a high-performance G-Self Mobile Suit. Despite having never before encountered the G-Self, he feels a strange connection to it and its pilot, a space pirate called Aida Surugan.

Little does Bellri know that he is about to uncover truths which will shake the entire Regild Century."

No further details about the new project (such as the format and the release date) have yet been revealed, although it is known that the project is currently moving forward through the planning stage. We'll keep you posted as the news develops.

The Secret Best Character: Kevin from Tiger Mask W

by sdshamshel

Pictured Right: The Best Guy

Both anime and pro wrestling are larger-than-life fantasy worlds, so it’s inevitable that a wrestling-themed anime like Tiger Mask W would be populated with big, bombastic personalities… some even based on real-world wrestlers! Among these characters, there’s one that at first seems easily forgettable, but as the show has progressed reveals himself to be the best man around: Kevin Anderson.

Kevin is a wrestler for the dastardly Global Wrestling Monopoly, the largest wrestling federation in the world and front for the Tiger’s Den, a clandestine organization that trains evil wrestlers. He does not have any appellations, like “Hitman,” or “the Ace,” or “Bigfoot.” With generic tights and a generic look, Kevin’s just Kevin. At best, he’s the guy always next to the GWM’s hot new wrestler, Tiger the Dark.

But it’s in the background where Kevin shines. Through thick and thin, Kevin rises to the occasion, especially when helping out Tiger the Dark. He knows he’s not quite as strong a wrestler, especially compared to the top echelon of GWM big-shots, but he’s loyal to this friends and will lend a hand in times of need. Over and over again, Tiger Mask W makes it seem like Kevin is just going to fade away into irrelevance as the other characters grow in power and intensity, but Kevin’s actually never far behind. When others look out for themselves, Kevin has an eye for the bigger picture.

In the anime and manga Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun, there’s a scene where the characters are playing a dating sim and trying to genuinely find the right partner for the protagonist. As they go through all the girls, they find in every single one of them a deal breaker that makes them not good enough for their precious player character. Suddenly, it dawns on them: it’s the best friend, a guy who’s always there to help out, lend an ear, and even give a shoulder. Kevin is Dating Sim Best Friend.

Kevin Anderson is a seemingly milquetoast character who defies his own design. In doing so, he might just secretly be the greatest supporting character around.

New Guinea singing dog or New Guinea Highland dog gets its name from a unique vocalization. It's more famous for being exceedingly rare. They were photographed in 1989 and 2012, but were suspected to be extinct. That was until last week. Researchers confirmed the existence of a population, hidden in a remote area, including over 100 photos and DNA analysis of the most ancient and primitive canids in existence.
